BURN THE BULGE 8 WAYS FOR A SEXY SUMMER By CHAY MIRANDA
1. Eat more often. It may sound ironic, but saving your appetite strictly for lunch and dinner meals may actually cause more weight gain than weight loss. Eating 5-6 small meals not only curbs your appetite, but also speeds up metabolism.
2. Set big goals, take small steps. Let’s say you want to lose 15 pounds. Set a realistic time frame for your target weight, and write down the ways to achieve it. Make a healthy and achievable diet plan in which you would lose an average of only 1-2 pounds a week.
3. Drink plenty of water. It helps make you feel full, and it has zero calories. Downing a glass of water before meals will help you eat less. People often liken thirst for hunger, so next time you feel like noshing, reach for water first. Some experts suggest sipping water (or iced tea) just before you sit down to a meal. Continue drinking as you eat to add volume and weight to your meal.
4. Get off the couch. If you’re not a gym person, do alternatives that make exercise not seem like exercise. Go for walks at a shopping mall, or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Any physical activity is better than none at all.
5. Make smart substitutions. Look for nutritious low-calorie alternatives to sugary, high-fat treats. Try frozen grapes instead of candy. Use air-popped popcorn instead of oil-popped. Dip fresh strawberries in fat-free fudge sauce for a sensuous chocolaty treat.
6. Make a grocery list and stick to it. Write down only what you need, and think of healthy snacks for in-between meals. Avoid the junk food aisle and ditch the sodas.
7. Use smaller plates. We eat with our eyes. Filling up a small plate gives the illusion of a big meal, making you full with less quantity of food.
8. Cut down on alcohol. Booze is one of the culprits of gaining weight. So when summer season, take it off to your diet. Alcoholic drinks are high on calories, especially those pretty little cocktails or chocolate shake-types that contain high sugar content.
